Dino Melaye Criticises Worsening Hardship Under Tinubu’s Administration

Former federal lawmaker Dino Melaye has painted a bleak picture of the economic hardship in Nigeria, stating that the country is in a “precarious situation” and that many citizens are struggling to find food.

Speaking on a national television programme, Melaye, who recently dumped Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for African Democratic Congress (ADC) asserted that the hunger and poverty under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu are unprecedented.

The former governor of Kogi State said hunger is chartered and people are dying of malnutrition in the rural communities of this country. “People are beginning to visit garbage centres to look for crumbs and food,” he said.

To illustrate the severity of the situation, he suggested that a simple announcement of a food giveaway in a village could lead to stampedes and casualties due to the desperation for a few tins of rice.

Melaye, who represented Kogi West in the Senate, claimed that the government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), is failing to lead the country on the correct path.

Explaining his political move, Melaye described the ADC as a unique party whose members are united by their concern for the suffering of Nigerians.

He further criticised PDP, alleging that it has become a “parastatal” or a “department” of the APC. He questioned the role of PDP governors, asking if they were truly acting as an effective opposition.
