Former Nigeria International Brown Ideye asserts that the Super Eagles will encounter a formidable challenge in their remaining four matches of the qualification tournament for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles currently find themselves at the bottom of their Group C with seven points, while South Africa leads with 13 points, and both Rwanda and Benin follow closely with eight points each.
In discussing the Super Eagles’ prospects, Ideye remarked that the team has faltered in several of their past matches, emphasizing the need for mental resilience to overcome their difficulties and secure a spot in the World Cup 26, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
”Numerous factors contributed to our setbacks in previous matches,” Ideye stated during an interview broadcast on Brila FM. “When there is a reshuffling of players and coaches, it is the team that ultimately bears the repercussions.
”When the group draw was revealed, there was a general belief that we were placed in the easiest group. However, I think many underestimated some of these teams, presuming they would be simple opponents.

Ideye noted that the Eric Sekou Chelle-led squad will face significant challenges in their next four matches scheduled for September and October if they hope to have a realistic opportunity to qualify for next year’s Mundial.
He further stated, “Any team facing Nigeria will bring their best performance. They will not simply allow us to pass by. For them, it is everything—they will do whatever is necessary to qualify for the World Cup.”
”I believe the players now realize that the situation is not as straightforward as they once thought. The upcoming match is a critical do-or-die scenario for the nation. It is essential that everyone remains fully focused and dedicated,” Ideye concluded, who was part of the Africa Cup of Nations-winning team in 2013.,
