Peter Obi Rallies Super Falcons Ahead of WAFCON Final

As Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, prepared for their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final showdown in Morocco, Labour Party, LP, 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi charged them to win.

In a statement posted on his X page on Saturday, the former governor of Anambra State urged the team to “bring the trophy home’, when they faced host nation Morocco later today.

Obi lauded the Super Falcons for their “extraordinary courage and excellence” throughout the tournament, emphasising their role as symbols of national pride and African resilience.

“You are more than just a football team – you are the pride of Africa and the heartbeat of Nigeria,” Obi said, highlighting the team’s embodiment of unity and a never-say-die attitude.

“Go forth and conquer, Super Falcons. Bring the trophy home”, he said.

Obi’s sentiments resonate with millions of Nigerians who eagerly await the outcome of the championship match, hoping for a record-extending tenth continental title for their beloved Super Falcons.

Obi’s statement, also aimed at bolstering the team’s morale before their critical match, reminded the players that they carry “the dreams of millions, the strength of a people, and the indomitable Naija spirit.”

Nigeria, a dominant force in African women’s football, has historically secured nine WAFCON titles.

Their journey to this year’s final has been marked by strong performances, including a decisive 2-1 semi-final victory over defending champions South Africa, following a 5-0 win against Zambia in the quarterfinals.
