The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has officially renamed several streets and landmarks to celebrate prominent Nigerian figures, with music star Olamide Adedeji receiving dual honors. The former “Charly Boy Bus Stop” is now “Baddo Bus Stop,” while Ajidagan Street has been renamed “Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street.”
The renaming initiative was announced by outgoing Bariga LCDA Chairman Hon. Kolade Alabi David during a project commissioning ceremony on July 25, 2025. “This is our way of immortalizing those who have brought pride to Bariga and elevated Nigeria’s global reputation,” David stated in his official address.
The council honored several notable figures through the renaming exercise. Ilaje Road now bears the name of juju legend King Sunny Adé, while Bariga Road has been designated as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way in recognition of the Nigerian president. Community Road in Akoka now honors Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Ifeanyi Street has been renamed after singer 9ice (Abolore Akande). Additional changes include Ayodele Street being renamed for Afro-pop veteran Tony Tetuila and Ilojo Crescent becoming Bukayo Saka Street to celebrate the Arsenal and England football star of Nigerian descent.

The replacement of “Charly Boy Bus Stop” has generated particular attention. Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, known as Charly Boy, responded to the change with his characteristic phrase: “Na dem sabi” (“They know what they’re doing”).
Social media reactions have been mixed, with some users questioning the historical basis of prior namings while others applaud the recognition of contemporary cultural influencers. Chairman David emphasized that the selections reflect Bariga’s commitment to honoring both legendary and current achievers across various fields.
The renaming ceremony coincided with the completion of several local infrastructure projects, marking the final official acts of the outgoing administration.
