Ademola Lookman has declined Napoli’s proposal and is eagerly awaiting Inter’s response, who may increase their offer as Atalanta maintains their €50 million asking price.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nigerian forward has turned down Napoli’s overture and is holding out for a transfer to Inter. Even though he received a more attractive offer from the Partenopei – a net salary of €5 million compared to Inter’s €4.5 million – Lookman is resolute in his desire to join the Nerazzurri.
Inter has already made a bid of €40 million (£26 million/$34 million) plus bonuses and a 10 percent resale clause, which Atalanta promptly rejected, insisting on a minimum of €50 million (£43 million/$58 million).
Lookman’s representatives are preparing for another round of discussions with Atalanta, aiming to facilitate the transfer. The Nigerian international is reportedly willing to personally intervene to expedite his exit from Bergamo, relying on a promise made by the club last year to permit a transfer.
Inter, for their part, are amenable to slightly increasing their offer and have received approval from Oaktree Capital to arrive at a compromise figure closer to €42-45 million.
Atalanta remains steadfast in their valuation and prefers a permanent sale rather than Inter’s suggested loan with an obligation to purchase. The Serie A runners-up are also frustrated with the strategies employed by Lookman’s representatives and Inter officials, believing there has been excessive behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
The 27-year-old Lookman, who played a pivotal role in helping Atalanta secure the Europa League title last season with a remarkable hat-trick, has remained publicly silent.

However, reports indicate that he has made it clear privately that he views Inter as his sole destination, eagerly anticipating a better deal. Napoli, who considered a deal in June, has reportedly since retreated as they now focus on acquiring a more traditional winger than Lookman, who is more suited to the role of a second striker.
It remains to be seen whether Inter can persuade Atalanta to accept a slightly lower offer or if Lookman will need to take matters into his own hands. The forward is under contract until 2027, meaning Atalanta still retains significant leverage.
