Borussia Dortmund Leading Race for Super Eagles’ Wilfred Ndidi

Super Eagles midfield maestro Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly poised for a significant transfer, with German football powerhouse Borussia Dortmund emerging as a leading suitor for the Leicester City standout.

Reports indicate that Dortmund, who boast eight Bundesliga titles, is among several elite European clubs keen on acquiring the 28-year-old Nigerian international.

Despite his contract with Leicester City extending until June 2027, mounting speculation suggests Ndidi’s tenure at the King Power Stadium might be nearing its end.

Dortmund’s interest appears to align with recent reports suggesting a potential £9 million release clause in Ndidi’s contract, triggered by Leicester’s recent relegation.

However, the Foxes are understood to be seeking approximately €15 million, aiming to maximise their return on one of their most valuable assets.

Beyond the German giants, other clubs are also monitoring the situation. The Turkish side, Fenerbahçe, has reportedly initiated discussions with Ndidi’s representatives.

Premier League outfits Manchester United and Everton are also tracking developments.

Nevertheless, sources close to the situation believe Dortmund may hold an advantage, given their consistent Champions League participation and their established track record of successfully integrating top African talents into their squad.

Ndidi, who has earned 65 caps for the Nigerian national team, has been an indispensable player for Leicester since he arrived from Genk in 2017.

With Leicester now competing in the English Championship, the defensive midfielder is reportedly exploring his options, driven by a desire to return to top-tier football.

While Ndidi’s camp has remained silent on the ongoing speculation, a transfer to Germany could materialise before the summer transfer window concludes.
