The Natural Ruler of Elem Kalabari in Rivers State, King Dokubo Asari, has condoled Nigerians over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose demise occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a London hospital. He was aged 82.
Buhari who was buried at his home town Daura in Katsina State on Tuesday was once a military head of state in the 80s and later became a two term democratically elected president from 2015 till 2023.
Narrating his relationship with the ex president. King Asari said: “I want to condole Nigerians on the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari
“Muhammadu Buhari’s path and my path crossed after he came out of prison and was appointed by the then Head of State, Late General Sani Abacha as the Head of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). Adamu Adamu who was a senior friend of mine was the special assistant. He made me to have close relationship with Buhari.
“My relationship with Buhari continued until I went to detention. But before I went to detention, we had started having political interaction through late Pa Enahoro during the formation of the Social Democratic Mega Party. Later on, Buhari, the present President Tinubu and others pulled out of the party.
“I was one of the founding fathers of what became the Social Democratic Party (SDP) today alongside other activists. Our relationship continued and even when Buhari formed CPC, he invited me. He handed over CPC structure to me in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

“But our relationship went soured when he came out against former President Goodluck Jonathan and I took sides with Jonathan as my brother and I became one of the most bittered critics of Buhari. But towards the end of Buhari’s tenure, precisely November 2021, Buhari remembered me that I should assist in making sure the Anambra election at the time holds. That was the beginning and the birth of what is now known as Royal Fouche (alias) Amama Soldiers and we are doing well in different parts of Nigeria.
“We have been doing a good job in collaborating with the security services in Nigeria. We have helped in opening the Abuja highway and people are now travelling freely. Our men have made farmers to return to their farms in some northern states of the country.
“My condolences also go to few of our men who lost their lives in defending the ordinary people of Nigeria and the sovereignty of the country.”
