Seyi Law Mocks Peter Obi’s Humility, Faces Backlash

A recent video showing Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, serving food at an event in Imo State has ignited mixed reactions on social media.

The clip, which has gone viral, depicts the former Anambra governor carrying trays of food, cheerfully interacting with guests, and personally dishing out meals—a gesture many have praised as a demonstration of humility and approachability.

However, popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has taken a sarcastic jab at Obi’s actions, suggesting they were a performative display rather than an authentic act of kindness. Sharing the video on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Seyi Law wrote:

“This is the height of humility. Na today I confirm sey Peter Obi really humble.”

The remark immediately drew backlash from Obi’s supporters, who flooded the comment section to defend the politician. Many argued that Obi has consistently shown humility in both public and private settings, citing his past engagements, philanthropic efforts, and down-to-earth interactions with ordinary Nigerians.

Some critics accused Seyi Law of deliberately mocking Obi to gain attention, while others questioned why the comedian would trivialize an act of kindness.

One X user wrote: “If a politician is arrogant, you complain. If he shows humility, you still complain. What exactly do you people want?” Another countered: “Let’s not be naive. Politicians do these things for optics. The real test is their policies, not photo ops.”
