Oluremi Tinubu Engages Global Counterparts in New York on Societal Impact

Remi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is currently in New York, participating in the 3rd Annual Global First Ladies Alliance Academy.

She has joined other First Ladies from various continents to deliberate on how their unique positions can effectively drive positive change in a rapidly evolving world and create a lasting, beneficial impact.

Addressing the assembly, Mrs Tinubu underscored the importance of implementing innovative solutions to address the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable populations in Nigeria.

She highlighted that this commitment forms the bedrock of her ‘Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)’, through which she champions efforts to empower women and youth, ultimately working towards improved lives for families across the nation.

Mrs Tinubu advised her fellow First Ladies, encouraging them to be bold in tackling obstacles and to value even seemingly small contributions.

The high-level gathering brought together First Ladies including Ana Dias Lourenco of Angola, Anna Hakobyan of Armenia, Rossana Briceno of Belize, Lucrecia Peinado of Guatemala, Eliza Reid of Iceland, Monica Chakwera of Malawi, Gueta Chapo of Mozambique, Maricel de Mulino of Panama, and Fatima Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, alongside numerous former First Ladies.

They engaged in robust discussions and shared experiences on a range of shared global issues.
These topics included mental health and well-being (with a particular focus on youth), maternal health, food security, and the rapid advancements of artificial intelligence.

Dr Cora Neumann, a Montana State Senator and the chief facilitator and founder of the Global First Ladies Alliance, emphasised the enduring nature of their leadership roles.

She impressed upon the participating First Ladies that their influence is crucial not only during their time in office but throughout their lives.

Dr Neumann added, “Together you are setting the global standard for what it means to be an effective First Partner-and collectively, you represent the hopes and needs of millions.” She urged them to exemplify leadership through compassion and empathy.

The academy, organised by the Global First Ladies Alliance in collaboration with Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, is structured as an executive leadership training program.

Its primary objectives are to sharpen the focus, enhance the impact, and improve the office efficiency of its members, while simultaneously fostering a robust global leadership community among them.

Mrs Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a special address at the academy in the coming days, where she is expected to highlight her transformative interventions for children, women, and youth in Nigeria, implemented through her Renewed Hope Initiative.
