President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in the management of public finances.
He declared that funds liberated from the recent removal of fuel subsidies will be strategically redirected towards vital infrastructure projects, essential social safety nets, and targeted economic reforms designed to benefit Nigerians.
The President delivered this assurance today in Abuja during his address at the opening of the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance.
The conference, themed ‘Fiscal Governance in Nigeria: Charting a New Course for Transparency and Sustainable Development’, aims to redefine the nation’s approach to financial integrity.
Represented by the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, President Tinubu underscored the importance of openness and responsibility in public finance.
He highlighted concrete steps already undertaken to digitise national financial systems, citing platforms like the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), and the Open Treasury Portal.
These initiatives, he explained, are designed to ensure that public funds are fully traceable, public officials are held accountable, and citizens are empowered with accessible financial information.

“Fiscal governance is the essence of national development,” the President stated.
“Without accountability, transparency, and the judicious management of public resources, no nation, regardless of its natural endowments, can truly flourish.”
The conference serves as a crucial convergence point for key stakeholders, including representatives from the National Assembly, various government agencies, civil society organisations, and the private sector.
Their collective aim is to deliberate on effective strategies for promoting fiscal transparency, accountability, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
This gathering marks a significant moment in the country’s pursuit of enhanced financial governance, offering a platform for sharing best practices and outlining a fresh direction.
By reinforcing the mandate of the Public Accounts Committees and actively championing transparency and accountability within government operations, the Tinubu administration is demonstrating its dedication to fiscal discipline and responsible leadership.
The conference is anticipated to generate tangible recommendations that will further strengthen fiscal transparency and accountability in Nigeria, thereby contributing directly to the nation’s overall progress and development.
