Group Organize Conference on Sustainable Actions Against Climate Change

‎The Lekeh Development Foundation has organized a high level engagement for Africa’s Civil Society Organizations, Government leaders, women groups, religious and Traditional leaders with theme, Building a resilient future: Integrating climate action and community empowerment in the Niger Delta.

‎Speaking at the event, the Coordinator Lekeh Development Foundation, Mr. Friday Barilule said the essence of having the Niger Delta Climate Conference is to discuss the issues of climate change that has affected every sector in Africa.

‎He noted that the conference aims at pushing for renewable energy that would phase out fossil fuel which has brought damage to the Niger Delta Environment.

‎”I want this to be a movement for climate justice, i need us to move into an area where there is more investment in renewable energy. We need to speak and make people understand the need for renewable energy and by so doing, we will be phasing out fossil fuel.”

‎The Executive Director, Kebetkache women development and resource centre, Dr. Emem Okon said the government at all levels should adopt climate action framework that is gender responsive in order to address the impact of climate change on rural women and children.

‎The event which had representative from various Governmental agencies, Civil Society Organizations and the media had various sessions and panel discussions on sustainable environmental practices.
