WAFCON: ‘We’ll Stick to Our Game Plan’ – Super Falcons Coach Ahead of Tunisia Clash

As the Super Falcons prepare to face Tunisia in their opening fixture of the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Sunday, head coach Justin Madugu has insisted that the team will maintain their existing game plan.

The Falcons will take on Tunisia at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 (5:00 PM).

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Madugu stressed that what truly matters is the performance on matchday, noting that no opponent should be underestimated.

“There are no easy teams,” he said, adding that he holds great respect for Group B rivals Botswana, Algeria, and Tunisia, and the Falcons will approach all their games with that same respect.

The coach further stated that team rankings often do not accurately reflect a side’s true potential, cautioning that any team that relies on ratings could be in for a surprise on the day.

“In African football, there are no minnows,” Madugu said. “Based on our own qualifying campaign, we know we can’t afford to underrate anyone.”

He emphasised that for Tunisia and all other qualified teams to have reached this stage, they must be acknowledged and treated as worthy opponents.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for me, and for us as a team, we respect every side that made it through the qualifiers.”

He noted that their rivals worked hard to qualify.
