Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot has shared a deeply emotional statement following the devastating news of the passing of forward Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva.
In a message conveying immense shock and sorrow, Slot extended his heartfelt condolences to the families, emphasising the profound personal impact of the tragedy.
“What to say? What can anyone say at a time like this when the shock and the pain is so incredibly raw?” Slot’s statement began, reflecting the overwhelming grief felt by the club and the wider football community.
He underscored that his initial thoughts were not as a football manager, but as a ‘father, a son, a brother and an uncle’ directed towards the unimaginable loss experienced by the families of Diogo and André Silva.
Slot offered a clear message of solidarity to the grieving family, “you will never walk alone.”
He affirmed that the players, staff, and supporters of Liverpool Football Club, along with the broader football community, stand united in their support

The manager noted that this outpouring of empathy was a testament not only to the tragedy but also to the inherent goodness of those involved and the immense respect held for the brothers as individuals and for their family.
He highlighted Jota’s contributions to the team, which he said were evident to anyone who watched him play.
Slot recalled his last conversation with Jota, where he congratulated him on winning the Nations League and wished him well for his upcoming wedding.
He described it as a ‘dream summer for Diogo and his family, which makes it all the more heartbreaking that it should end like this.’
The Liverpool manager also spoke of the unique bond between Jota and the club’s supporters, noting that one of the first songs he learned upon arriving at the club was the chant dedicated to Diogo.
This, he recognised, signified Jota’s special qualities in the eyes of fans who have witnessed many great players over the years.
Slot extended his deepest condolences to Diogo’s wife, Rute, their three children, and to the parents of both Diogo and André.
He stated that while the time would come to celebrate Jota, his goals, and to sing his song, for now, the focus remains on remembering him as a unique human being and mourning his loss.
