Renowned Philanthropist Alhaji Aminu Dantata Laid to Rest in Madinah. The remains of esteemed Nigerian billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, were laid to rest on Tuesday evening at Al-Baqi Cemetery, a revered Islamic burial ground in Madinah.

The burial, which took place around 6:00 p.m. local time, followed Jana’iza (funeral) prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque.

Dantata, who passed away in Abu Dhabi, UAE, was transported to Madinah in accordance with his final wish to be buried in the holy city. His family secured the necessary approvals from Saudi authorities before proceeding with the burial, which was initially planned for Monday but postponed due to logistical delays.

The burial ceremony drew a distinguished delegation of Nigerian leaders and high-profile individuals, including Aliko Dangote (Africa’s richest man and Dantata’s nephew).

Before the burial, Emir Sanusi II led special prayers, describing Dantata as a beacon of generosity and faith whose influence transcended business. Governor Abba Yusuf** consoled the family, urging them to take solace in Dantata’s enduring legacy.

Saudi authorities granted a rare privilege to the Kano and Jigawa governors and Emir Sanusi to view the body before the funeral rites, an honour reflecting Dantata’s stature.

Its proximity to the Prophet’s Mosque adds to its spiritual significance, with Islamic tradition emphasising the virtue of those buried there.

Dantata, who died at 94, left behind three wives, 21 children, and 121 grandchildren. Known for his philanthropy, he recently donated N1.5 billion to Borno flood victims and was a mentor to many Nigerian leaders.

In honour of Dantata, the Senate postponed its North-West constitutional review hearing, observing a minute of silence during plenary. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that a new date would be set after consultations.

As mourners gathered at Al-Baqi, prayers filled the air for a man who shaped Nigeria’s commerce and humanitarian legacy a fitting farewell for a true icon.
