Nigerians Urges Fubara To Be Careful Of Dismantling Groups Soon, Calls For Caution

Nigerians are urging the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to exercise caution in dismantling his group of supporters, describing them as his “backup system.”

This plea follows a closed-door reconciliation meeting on June 26 between Fubara, Speaker of the State Assembly Martins Amaewhule, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu.

Background to the Crisis

The call for caution comes three months after a state of emergency was declared in Rivers State on March 18, 2025.

This declaration led to the suspension of elected Rivers State Government (RSG) officials, including Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and State House of Assembly members.

Following the acknowledgement of votes by the Senate and House of Representatives, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) was inaugurated as the Sole Administrator.

Public Reactions and Concerns

Owuoka Lawrence, a Facebook user, commented on the situation, stating that while there is “nothing wrong for the governor to recognize Wike as his leader and desolved simplified movement for the sustainance of one party,” he believes that “dissolving simplified movement for the benefit of Wikematitic group is a misdirection for embracing the peace pact.”

Comrade Zaganubari Prosbi described the situation as “unfortunate,” warning that the outcome would lead to Fubara’s regret.

He urged the governor to be careful, adding, “It’s an unfortunate situation, that the end result would leave him regretting, the Master had carefully separated the Gov. from the people with a pretense reconciliation that will ultimately be catastrophic and by then the Governor may not have a base to fall back to, having been peached against his own supporters and the people with whom had gained enormous support.”

Joseph Ledibabari Sunday alleged that after suspended Governor Fubara dismantles his supporters, he might face impeachment.

“After disarming the Governor of his supporters. The next thing is to impeach him. The Governor is weak and helpless. It’s well,” Sunday noted
