Fubara Attends Wike’s Uncle’s Burial After Abuja Truce Meeting

Following a truce meeting held on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with President Bola Tinubu and suspended Rivers State lawmakers, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his successor, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, have been seen together once more.

Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, confirmed Fubara’s attendance at the burial of Wike’s uncle in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State, in a statement on his Facebook page on Friday.

Olayinka wrote, “Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, alongside the Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule at the burial of Wike’s Uncle in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State today.”

Photos obtained by The Port City News shows Wike and Fubara seated together, engaged in discussion.

The political rift between Wike and Fubara, which began in 2023, led to a polarised Rivers State legislature and the eventual dismantling of the state’s assembly complex.

On March 18, 2025, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, citing the escalating political crisis and the targeting of oil installations within the state.

This declaration resulted in the suspension of both Fubara and the lawmakers, with Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retired) installed as sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs for an initial six-month period.
