Ronaldo Stays at Al Nassr with New Two-Year Contract

After weeks of speculation regarding his future with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed to a new deal to remain with the team.

The Port City News had earlier reported on the 40-year-old’s potential departure, citing a cryptic message he posted on X (formerly Twitter) following Al Nassr’s 3-2 loss to Al-Fateh in their final Saudi Pro League match of the season at the Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium.

Ronaldo, whose initial contract signed in January 2023 was set to expire this month, had indicated his chapter with the club was over.

However, Al Nassr’s sporting director, Fernando Hierro, later expressed the club’s desire to extend the former Real Madrid forward’s contract. He confirmed that discussions were underway to renew the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s deal, stating the club’s hopes he continues with us.’

Barely a month after Hierro’s revelation, renowned transfer expert and football journalist Fabrizio Romano announced on his social media handles on Thursday that the former Manchester United star has agreed to a new two-year deal.

He wrote, “Cristiano Ronaldo stayed at Al Nassr with a new two-year contract and with a record salary for the Saudi Pro League.”

On June 9, this newspaper reported that he achieved a new record after Portugal defeated Spain to secure their second UEFA Nations League title in the 2024/25 season.

Portugal triumphed over the defending champions 5-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw in the final held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

After lifting the trophy, Ronaldo indicated he might consider retiring from football if he sustained a serious injury.
