Hull City, the former club of Jay Jay Okocha, has successfully acquired the services of Semi Ajayi, a defender for the Super Eagles, on a two-year contract, as reported by Soccernet.
The 31-year-old player has amassed 200 appearances in the EFL Championship throughout his extensive career, which includes stints at Rotherham and West Bromwich Albion, from which he was released last month.
Due to hamstring injuries last season, Ajayi was limited to just 14 starts for the Baggies, with three of those occurring since the start of November. In an official announcement on Hull City’s website, the three-time EFL League One champions confirmed the signing of the 43-cap Super Eagle on a two-year contract, with an option for the club to extend for an additional year.

Hull narrowly avoided relegation in the EFL Championship, benefiting from a superior goal difference compared to Luton Town, who faced relegation for two consecutive seasons. Ajayi expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity presented by Hull City and emphasised the club’s ambition to return to the top tier.
“I’m really excited. I spoke to the sporting director, Jared Dublin, and head of recruitment, Martin Hodge, they sold me on the vision of the club and the plans for this season. “The club aims to compete at the upper end of the league, and that’s where I envision myself competing. Upon hearing the vision, I was eager to become part of the project.
“I believe I can contribute Championship experience, knowledge, and leadership. I am adept with the ball, strong in aerial duels, and my pace is an asset that Jared and Martin praised,” the former Arsenal centre-back stated on Hull’s official website. “We all recognise the challenges of the Championship, and I am eager to share my experience with the team.
“I enjoyed a successful six years at West Brom, but I am thrilled to embrace a new challenge now. I am coming in with a strong desire to prove myself once more and perform to the best of my abilities as a Hull City player,” concluded the 2023 AFCON finalist. Semi Ajayi played a crucial role in Nigeria’s 2025 Unity Cup.
