Osimhen Wins Turkish Super Lig Goal of the Season

Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has won the award for the best goal in the Turkish Super Lig for the 2024/25 season. The 26-year-old claimed the prize for his stunning overhead kick during stoppage time in Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over Antalyaspor in October 2024.

The announcement was made via the league’s official social media accounts on Tuesday. Osimhen emerged as the winner of a fan poll on X, securing 65.8% of the total votes to edge out his Galatasaray teammate, Turkish defender Kaan Ayhan, who garnered 34.2%.

The poll, hosted on the Turkish Super Lig’s official X account, took place on Monday, with the results revealed on Tuesday. Osimhen advanced through two rounds of nominations before facing Ayhan in the final stage, where the Turkish player’s contender was a well-taken free-kick.

Osimhen’s season began on a sour note at Napoli, where he was frozen out of the squad. He was eventually loaned to Galatasaray. While on loan at the Turkish club, he scored an impressive 37 goals across all competitions, helping Galatasaray secure both the Super Lig title and the Turkish Cup.

Currently, the Napoli striker has attracted interest from top European clubs since the opening of the transfer window. Clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, AC Milan, and Juventus have all been linked with him. There have also been persistent attempts from Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal to lure Osimhen to the Gulf, reportedly with highly lucrative wage offers.
