Bayelsa Civil Service Chairman Urges Patience as Recruitment Process Advances

The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Perekiye Buruboyefe, has appealed to residents of the state to remain patient with the Governor Douye Diri-led Prosperity Administration, assuring them that more employment opportunities are in the works.

Speaking during a live radio appearance on Monday, June 16, 2025, Buruboyefe addressed key issues surrounding the recently conducted Computer-Based Test (CBT) for civil service recruitment and the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the process.

He disclosed that Diri approved 3 March 2025 for the recruitment of approximately 1,000 new officers into the state civil service. According to him, a total of 36,750 candidates participated in the CBT, and applicants who scored 60 and above would be shortlisted for the next stage, which includes a physical examination.

Buruboyefe acknowledged several challenges faced during the test. These included candidates’ failure to comply with examination guidelines previously published by the Commission, as well as discrepancies such as mismatched names and phone numbers submitted during registration.

The chairman noted that these issues affected smooth identification and verification during the exercise. While many callers to the programme commended the state government for initiating the recruitment process, others raised concerns over technical hitches experienced during the exam.

Some called for greater transparency by allowing candidates access to their results, while a few demanded outright cancellation of the CBT due to the glitches encountered. In response, the Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a credible, merit-driven recruitment exercise and assured the public that concerns raised would be duly addressed.
