PSG Win Champions League After Defeating Inter Milan

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), won their first-ever UEFA Champions League title on Saturday night with a dominant 5–0 victory over Serie A giants Inter Milan in Munich.

Achraf Hakimi found the back of the net to open the scoring in the 12th minute against his former club. The French champions extended their lead through two goals from 19-year-old forward Désiré Doué, followed by strikes from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu.

Doué’s brace made him the first teenager to score twice in a Champions League final since Benfica’s Eusébio did so in a 5–3 win over Real Madrid in 1962. He also became the youngest player to both score and assist in a Champions League final.

The triumph marks the culmination of over a decade of effort by PSG, who sought European glory by signing global superstars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimović, and Kylian Mbappé.

Despite their star-studded squads, earlier campaigns saw the club repeatedly crash out in the quarter-finals. They reached the final in 2020 but fell short, and subsequent seasons ended in Round of 16 exits.

By 2023 and 2024, PSG began to dismantle their ‘super team’. Neymar moved to Saudi Arabia, Messi joined Inter Miami, and Mbappé signed for Real Madrid.

PSG lifted the trophy just a year after their talisman Mbappé left for Madrid in pursuit of European success. With this victory, PSG became the only second French club to win the European Cup, following Marseille’s triumph in 1993.

It also marked manager Luis Enrique’s second Champions League title, having previously won it with Barcelona in 2015. The win sealed a historic treble for PSG, who had already claimed both Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France titles earlier in the season.
