Super Eagles Set to Face Black Stars Of Ghana Today

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are coming up against The Black Stars of Ghana in a Unity Cup tie, which is also seen as a friendly game. However, based on the rivalry between both countries, the fans are not seeing it as such. Due to the football rivalry, and the ever-heated debate over who has the best jollof, it promises to be another fierce encounter between both sides. The winner will have bragging rights for weeks, as we’ve seen in the past.

The 2025 Unity Cup is a four-nation invitational tournament featuring Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Going into the game, both teams will want to secure a win. Their head-to-head record in the last five meetings shows three draws and one win apiece, Nigeria’s being the most recent, a 2-1 victory in 2024, while Ghana’s dates back to 2014, when they beat Nigeria 4-1 in a friendly.

Clips from the Super Eagles camp show that the team is united and in high spirits, something they’ll need to maintain not just against Ghana, but also in their remaining World Cup qualifier fixtures.

Many fans are expecting former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, who was recalled to the team after a long exclusion, to feature in the game. Perhaps, this could be his final appearance, as age appears to be catching up with him, as it does with footballers and indeed everyone.

25 players are currently in the Super Eagles camp ahead of the Unity Cup, 10 are home-based, while 15 play for foreign clubs.

The home-based contingent is led by captain Ahmed Musa. Others include Junior Nduka (Remo Stars), Ifeanyi Onyebuchi (Enugu Rangers), Sodiq Ismaila (Remo Stars), Waliu Ojetoye (Ikorodu City), Papa Daniel (Niger Tornadoes), Saviour Isaac (Enugu Rangers), Collins Ugwueze (Enugu Rangers), Sikiru Alimi (Remo Stars), and Abubakar Adamu.

The foreign-based players are: Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Frank Onyeka, Semi Ajayi, Cyriel Dessers, Nathan Tella, Felix Agu, Igho Ogbu, Bruno Onyemaechi, Maduka Okoye, Stanley Nwabali, Amas Obasogie, Christantus Uche, and Samuel Chukwueze.

The friendly game will also serve as a testing ground for new players ahead of the crucial 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Nigeria must win all remaining games if they are to qualify for the tournament, the first in history to be hosted by three nations.

The match takes place at the Brentford Community Stadium, London, 7:45 pm, Nigerian time.
