Napoli Wins Italian Serie A

Napoli secured the Serie A title with a 2-0 victory against Cagliari at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku scored the goals that sealed the championship in the final round.

Three minutes before halftime, McTominay opened the scoring with a spectacular bicycle kick from Matteo Politano’s cross, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Six minutes after the break, Lukaku doubled the lead, latching onto a long ball, outmuscling a defender, and calmly finishing past Cagliari’s keeper Alen Sherri.

Napoli entered the final matchday with a one-point lead over Inter Milan. Inter’s 2-0 win over 10-man Como, with goals from Stefan de Vrij and Joaquin Correa, wasn’t enough, as Napoli’s victory ensured they finished one point ahead. A level points finish would have triggered a playoff, but Napoli’s win avoided that scenario.

The match ended with flares, smoke, and fireworks lighting up Naples as fans celebrated at the stadium. Antonio Conte, absent from the touchline due to suspension, became the first coach to win Serie A with three different clubs: Juventus, Inter Milan, and Napoli. He praised his players, saying, “Winning in Naples is difficult, these boys are doing it for the second time in two years.

They are serious boys, you don’t leave a team that always plays to win.” Reflecting on the pressure, he added, “When we got to the stadium, it was honestly difficult to get in… I had a slight thought, if we let these people down, it’d be something we carried with us for a long time.”

McTominay and Lukaku, Conte’s top transfer targets, were pivotal in reclaiming the title from Inter Milan, who won it last season. Inter now shift focus to their Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain next Saturday.
