NDBDA Forms Team to Protect Delta Waterways

The Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) has inaugurated a 13-member Waterways Sanitation Management Team (WSMT) to drive environmental sustainability across the region.

Speaking during the inauguration at the Agency’s Port Harcourt headquarters, NDBDA Managing Director Ebitimi Amgbare said the initiative aims to promote clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), climate action (SDG 13), and marine conservation (SDG 14).

Amgbare emphasized that the team will work across Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers States to address plastic pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

He described the WSMT as key to ensuring healthy waterways, supporting local economies reliant on fishing and tourism, and achieving global sustainability goals.

He noted that poor sanitation threatens both livelihoods and the environment, and reaffirmed NDBDA’s commitment to long-term ecological and economic resilience in the Niger Delta.
