Security Expert Advocates Non-kinetic Approach to Curbing Insecurity

Government has been advised to adopt a non- kinetic approach to augment the efforts of security operatives in combating insurgency in the nation.

Reacting to the menace of insecurity in the country, a security expert, Mr. Charles Inko- Tariah who spoke to newsmen explained that incorporating citizens and acquiring state of the art gadgets would go a long way to safeguard the nation against criminals.

He stated that non- kinetic approach involves the integration of citizens for intelligence gathering to strengthen state and national security architecture.

Mr Inko- Tariah described the benefits of using drone, Artificial Intelligence, surveillance cameras to include cheaper operation.

“Non-kinetic approach do more of profiling our communities, identifying armouries, identifying supplies of arms and ammunition, cut down supply route and the rest to reduce the rate of arms flow in our communities.

The use of technology is cheaper, is more proactive, more safe for the environment, reduces casualties, it also reduces victims of violence”, he said.

Mr. Inko- Tariah stressed that with the use of sophisticated gadgets, some uncovered and remote areas with difficult terrain can be reached, monitored, and covered.

He admitted that state police would bring security personnel closer to the people but expressed fear it would be politicized by the power that be since the state governor funds it.

“State police current give the required result. It is a matter of recruiting Rivers people for Rivers State, Imo State people for Imo State.

It does not take away the corruption of police, It does not take away the monopoly of politician using coercive power, politics and forces to achieve their political aims and objectives,” he emphasised.

The security expert was of the opinion for security to be local used in the states to offer the governor’s the opportunity to come-up with a framework that is all encompassing to build a synergy with the federal security operatives.
