Rivers Sole Administrator Meets with HLGA, Pledges Timely Salary Payment

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has assured prompt payment of workers’ salaries following the release of withheld local government allocations.

During a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators (HLGA) in Port Harcourt, Ibas described the gathering as a crucial step toward restoring stability.

He expressed concern over the persistent hardship in the Niger Delta despite its rich natural resources and vowed to drive positive change.

“This is unacceptable,” Ibas stated, emphasizing the need for transformation and accountability.

However, Ibas warned against financial recklessness, directing all local government areas to submit their wage bills with relevant documentation to the office of the Head of Service.

He added that mismanagement of public funds will not be tolerated.

Ibas also urged local government administrators to collaborate with traditional rulers and security agencies to enhance security in their domains. “You must take the lead in ensuring security,” he emphasized.

The President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Clifford Paul, commended the Federal Government for appointing Ibas, describing his leadership as competent and timely.

Paul who is also an Administrator of Port Harcourt LGA,  acknowledged the developmental strides made despite political conflicts and expressed optimism that the release of withheld funds would alleviate the plight of workers owed two months’ salaries.
