Rivers United Star Named Player Of The Week

Rivers United’s experienced striker Samson Obi made a decisive impact, scoring his second goal of the season, which ultimately proved to be the match-winner against El Kanemi Warriors. This victory marked a significant milestone, as it handed El Kanemi their first home loss in an impressive 687 days. Their last defeat at home dated back to April 30, 2023, when they suffered a 1-0 loss to Enyimba.

The win was a testament to Rivers United’s determination and skill, and it’s likely to boost their confidence as they move forward in the season. El Kanemi Warriors, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from this setback and regain their home advantage.

In terms of the teams’ current standings, Rivers United is second in the Nigeria Professional Football League with 49 points, while El Kanemi Warriors are 11th with 40 points

Rivers United’s hard-fought away victory ensured they remained within striking distance of league leaders Remo Stars, trailing by eight points with nine crucial rounds of matches remaining in the season.

The hero of the match was 28-year-old striker Samson Obi, who continued his impressive form by scoring the winning goal. Interestingly, this was not his first match-winning performance, as he had also netted the decisive goal in Rivers United’s previous home match against Niger Tornadoes.

Obi’s goal-scoring prowess is no surprise, given his impressive track record in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Last season, he scored nine goals for Abia Warriors, demonstrating his ability to consistently find the back of the net. His experience extends beyond the NPFL, having also played for Enyimba, as well as clubs in Israel and North Africa. With his recent performances, Obi is undoubtedly a key player to watch in the remaining matches of the season.
