Gov Fubara meets Amaewhule-led lawmakers over S’ Court judgment

In what is said to be a letter of invitation, it has indicated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will meet with the Rivers State House of Assembly members led by Martin Amaewhule on Monday at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The one page letter which was said to have been issued by the office of the Secretary to the State Government highlighted certain issues bordering on budget, sitting space for the lawmakers among others.

The meeting came as a result of the recent Supreme Court judgment which reinstated Martin Amaewhule and 26 others as members of the state legislative arm of government.

The letter was titled: “MEETING BETWEEN THE GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE AND THE HONOURABLE MEMBERS RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY,” and was addressed to the Speaker, Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule on behalf of the state lawmakers.

Parts of the letter were cited as saying that: “I hereby write to notify you that His Excellency has received the Supreme Court Judgment, and has therefore directed me to invite you and your colleagues – the Honourable members of Rivers State House of Assembly, to a meeting to discuss:-

(1) Provision of a befitting space for the Assembly’s sittings;
(ii) Payment of all outstanding remuneration or allowances of the Honourable members;
(iii) Presentation of Budget and sundry matters;
(iv) Any other matter(s), as may be necessary, to chart the way forward in the best interest of the State.

“Sequel to the above, I hereby humbly invite the Rt. Hon. Speaker, and all the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to a meeting with the Governor as follows:-.

“Date:-Monday, 10th March, 2025
Time: -10am
Venue: Office of the Governor,
Government House, Port Harcourt.”
