Group Urges Fubara To Work With Amaewhule Led Assembly

By Mark Lenu

In order for peace to reign in Rivers State, the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to work with the Amaewhule-led state Assembly, adding that the recent Supreme Court judgment was right.

The advice of the group was sequel to the apex court ruling, affirming the membership of the 27 lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule.

The certified true copy of the judgment said there was no evidence of defection to warrant the nullification of the membership of the pro-Wike lawmakers.

The Chancellor of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights, Dr Omenazu Jackson, told our correspondent that the best thing for the governor to do is to put division aside and work with the Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers

“The interest of Rivers State should supersede personal interest. I see nothing wrong if the governor pays a personal and group visit to the pro Wike lawmakers in the interest of moving the state forward.

“The Supreme Court has spoken and everyone, including the governor, is bound to obey. It is time for the governor to work with the Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers as recognised by the Supreme Court,” Jackson said.

He further urged Fubara to present the 2025 budget to the Martin Amaewhule led state Assembly and also forward a fresh request of his commissioners to them for confirmation.

You recall that the Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers gave the governor a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget to them for passage, which the ultimatum has lapsed.

What is on the mind of many Rivers people is that if the governor refuses to work with the Martin Amaewhule led lawmakers, the governor might be threatened with impeachment move which some Ijaw groups had said they will resist.

Dr Jackson also commended the governor for allowing the state Independent Electoral Commission to commence plans for the conduct of another LG election this year in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment.
