The Chairman, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli has been summoned by the Rivers State House of Assembly to appear before it within 48 hours over the conduct of the 2024 local government election.
The House, during plenary presided over by its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, on Wednesday, threatened to issue a warrant of arrest on the RSIEC Chairman if he fails to appear before the House at the expiration of the ultimatum.
The resolutions were reached after a debate on a Motion moved by the Member representing Asari Toru Constituency II, Mr. Enemi George, urging the House to condemn the latest attempt by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission to initiate the process of conducting another local government elections.
The Assembly also invited all commissioners of the commission to appear before the House on Friday, 7th March 2025.
The Legislators requested that they come with relevant documents empowering them to spend any fund of the commission without an Appropriation Law. In another Motion, moved by the Leader of the House, Mr. Major Jack, the House faulted the appointment of Commissioners without prior legislative confirmation by the present House, including the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Dagogo Iboroma.
The Rivers State House of Assembly resolved to urge Governor Siminialayi Fubara to within 48 hours send a list of Commissioner nominees to the House.
