As part of efforts to strengthen health security, the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, has inaugurated the Institute of Infectious Disease, Research and Development (IIDRD).
Also, the launch featured the unveiling of the institute’s handbook and the launch of the Mpox App.

Oreh explained that the aim is to improve infectious disease surveillance and response.
She emphasized that infectious diseases pose a threat to national sovereignty, calling for a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach to health security.
The state commissioner for health expressed confidence that the IIDRD will not only build professional capacity but also transform population health outcomes and fortify the state’s health system.

Under the motto “Advancing Knowledge, Protecting Communities,” the institute offers diverse courses, including Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, Epidemiology, Public Health Emergencies, and Infection Prevention and Control.
Oreh will also serve as a faculty member.
