Popular Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has opened up about her decision to seek help from Nigerians, explaining that she did not want to die and was weary of repeatedly reaching out to the same people for assistance.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, the actress shared her ordeal, expressing how difficult her journey has been. “I knew I was getting serious. And when I was in the village, I just thought within me, is this how it’s going to end? What I am going through has not been easy. It is something that takes one’s happiness away and makes one so angry. But, one has to look at the positive side of life and just keep struggling. I know that this won’t last forever.”
Abubakar revealed that it took immense courage for her to speak out publicly about her struggles. “I had to find the strength to go public. I don’t know how, but I just had to do it. A closed mouth is a closed destiny, and I’m not ready to die. And I don’t want to ask the same people again. How would people know that I need help (if I don’t speak out)? God has given me strength to battle a lot of things that people don’t know about.

Discussing how she has managed to fund her medical treatments and tests, the actress acknowledged the support she has received from a few people. “A lot of people have been wonderful, and two of my friends have been particularly helpful. Aside from that, it has just been God, myself, and the help I have been getting recently.”
She also addressed skepticism from certain quarters, particularly within Nollywood. “The people saying that I am lying are a few Nollywood people; don’t mind them. They are all people from my industry. I don’t care about that.”
Abubakar encouraged others facing similar challenges to trust themselves and prioritize their families. She emphasized that family members are often the only ones who genuinely wish a person well.
