Police Arrest Two Suspects for Vandalizing NDDC Solar Street Lights in Port Harcourt

the Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspects for vandalizing and attempting to steal NDDC street solar lights along Danjuma Drive, off Trans-Amadi Road in Port Harcourt.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, officers from the Trans-Amadi Division acted on credible intelligence and apprehended the suspects at around 3:00 AM.

The suspects, identified as Shaibu Yusuf, 30, from Bolari Town in Gombe State, and Ibrahim Abubakar, 28, from Katsina LGA in Katsina State, were both residing at the Okuru scrap dump in Abuloma Community, Port Harcourt.

Recovered items from the suspects included:

  • Solar light poles
  • Solar light panels
  • Solar light panel bolts and nuts
  • A knife

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being part of a syndicate involved in stealing street solar lights and manhole covers in the area. They have since been charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

The police reiterated their commitment to curbing vandalism and ensuring public infrastructure remains protected across the state.
