UDO Unveils Dance Nigeria in Rivers: A Talent Hunt for the Next Dance Superstar

An international dance competition, Dance Nigeria, has been launched in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by the United Dance Organisation (UDO) United Kingdom. The contest, designed to showcase and nurture young dance talents across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, will officially begin on February 22.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Andrew Azuka, CEO of Amexx Logistics Services Limited and UDO’s sole representative in Nigeria, revealed that the winners from each zone will compete in Lagos this August, where the overall champion will earn a spot to represent Nigeria and West Africa at the UDO World Championship in Cardiff, Wales, on August 13.

Azuka outlined the competition’s prize structure, with zonal winners receiving ₦2 million, ₦1.5 million, and ₦1 million for the first, second, and third places, respectively. The grand finale champion in Lagos will take home ₦5 million.

“United Dance Organisation (UDO) is one of the biggest organizers of dance world championships, with over 47 country partners and millions of viewers across the globe,” Azuka said.

“This competition is designed to empower young dancers, helping them hone their craft, showcase their talent to a global audience, and potentially launch international careers. We’ve made participation almost free, with only a ₦2,500 administrative fee.”

Providing further details, Terry Igo, Creative Director of Dance Nigeria, explained that the competition would start at the regional level, with three winners emerging from each zone. These 18 finalists will then battle for the grand prize in Lagos.

“Participants can compete as individuals, duos, or groups. We also encourage them to infuse elements of Nigerian culture into their performances, making this event a true celebration of our heritage,” Igo added.

As the first-ever edition of the competition in Nigeria, organizers are working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and successful event. Dieomokuma Ishmael, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism**, commended the initiative, stating that the state government fully supports the competition.

With excitement building, Dance Nigeria promises to be a game-changer for the country’s dance industry, offering talented youths a shot at international recognition.
