The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, has called for collective action to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and eliminate their impact on communities.
Speaking in a special broadcast to mark this year’s World NTD Day in Port Harcourt, Dr. Oreh emphasized the importance of the global theme: Unite, Act, Eliminate. She noted that NTDs contribute to significant health challenges, particularly in underserved areas, and urged stakeholders to work together to tackle these diseases.
Highlighting the state’s progress in combating NTDs, Dr. Oreh commended ongoing efforts while stressing the need for sustained commitment. She encouraged residents to adopt proper hygiene practices, which remain a critical factor in disease prevention.

World NTD Day, observed annually on January 30th, aims to raise awareness of these diseases, highlight the suffering they cause, and mobilize support for their control, elimination, or eradication in line with World Health Organization (WHO) targets.
