Timi Dakolo Shares How His Persistence Turned a Church Encounter into a Love Story

Renowned Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo recently opened up about how he met his wife, Busola, and their journey to becoming a couple. The “Iyawo Mi” singer revealed that their story began in church, where he first approached her. Despite her initial lack of interest in a romantic relationship, Dakolo’s persistence eventually won her over.

Recalling their early interactions, he shared that Busola was reluctant to take his calls after giving him her number. Speaking during an interview with Pulse, he said, “I met my wife in the church. I went to her and asked her to be my date for a ball. She gave me her number but wasn’t picking up the phone when I called. I kept going to the area hoping to see her again. Then I saw her one day and I asked her why she was not picking up my calls and she said her phone got stolen.”

Sympathizing with her situation, they became friends, but Dakolo confessed that his feelings for her quickly grew. “I started developing feelings for her and she wanted to friend-zone me but I refused. I suffered to win her love. I was taking her to work to and fro,” he said.

He also recalled Busola feeling embarrassed when he used the branded Picanto car he won from Idols West Africa in 2007 to pick her up. Dakolo said, “At one time, she used to be embarrassed whenever I picked her up with the branded Picanto I won from Nigerian Idols. I said, ‘Okay, don’t worry. I will shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did.”

The couple got married in 2012 and have since built a happy life together, welcoming three children along the way. Dakolo’s story is one of persistence, determination, and a deep love that grew against the odds.
