In a transformative step towards human capital development, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) company has launched its Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC-HCD) Basic Training Programme in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The initiative is part of the NLNG Train 7 Project, aimed at equipping young graduates with industry-relevant skills.

Out of 848 shortlisted candidates, 331 graduates across diverse disciplines secured spots in the 12-month program. They will undergo intensive training in various fields, including ICT, engineering, welding and fabrication, non-destructive testing (NDT), quality management systems, marine and offshore services, and facility maintenance.

Speaking at the launch, Engr. Joshua Anemeje, Corporate Liaison Manager for the Train 7 Project, lauded the programme’s impact and credited its success to the support of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

“We are excited to see how this programme will transform the lives of these young men and women. NLNG takes pride in empowering people and creating opportunities for skill and capacity development,” Anemeje said. He also highlighted the ongoing construction of the Train 7 Project, which has provided employment to over 10,000 skilled workers at the Finima Plant site on Bonny Island.
He urged participants to make the most of the programme and apply their newfound skills to future challenges.

Dr. Ama Ikuru, representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Ogbe, commended the launch as a fulfillment of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act. He emphasized that the training aims to build a pool of globally competitive professionals to drive growth in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

“This programme represents a significant investment in the future of our country. It equips young people with both practical and theoretical knowledge, providing clear pathways to employment for those who excel,” Dr. Ikuru remarked.

He further encouraged other graduates seeking similar opportunities to register on the NCDMB’s NOGIC Joint Qualification System (JQS) portal—a key database for job opportunities in the oil and gas industry.

A Future of Growth and Sustainability
The training, facilitated by the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN), aligns with the Train 7 Project’s broader goals. Once completed, Train 7 is expected to boost NLNG’s production capacity by 35%, increasing output from 22 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 30 MTPA.

The initiative reflects NLNG’s and NCDMB’s shared vision of fostering innovation, building expertise, and ensuring sustainable energy development while empowering Nigeria’s youth for a brighter future.
