Another Nollywood Actress, Mummy Wa Opens Up About Facing Sexual Harassment in Nollywood

Nigerian skitmaker Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Mummy Wa, recently shared her experiences of facing sexual harassment within the film industry.

She opened up about these challenges during a conversation on the WithChude podcast.

Known as both Mummy Wa and Kemz Mama, Ikuseedun explained that she encountered unwanted sexual advances from industry figures early in her career.

Despite the pressure, she consistently declined these advances, recognizing that compliance would not guarantee her success.

“What I said related more behind the scenes, not even as an actor. Behind the scenes, a lot of people are asking for things. They are asking for a whole lot of things. But me I cannot do it,” she stated.

Reflecting on her position, she added, “Where do I want to start from? How do I want to even do it? Me that I am already coming from a place where they tell me ‘This thing will not work’. How many people do you want to sleep with?”

Ikuseedun expressed doubt that giving in to such pressures would yield positive results, saying, “To be honest with you, you might actually sleep with somebody in the movie industry and the role they will give you, will not ‘blow! You will still be there.”

She noted the widespread nature of the issue across the industry. “Me entering entertainment, I saw a lot of men. But guess what?

“Even the ones that do not have anything; that are slim, they are still asking for things from them. No woman is free. No woman is immune. But me, I cannot do it.”

Ikuseedun rose to fame through her roles in Mr. Macaroni’s skits, where she became a well-known face to audiences across Nigeria.
