Three Female Officers Arrested in Rivers for Alleged Motorist Extortion

In a recent crackdown on corruption, the Rivers State Police Command has arrested three female officers—Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau—for allegedly extorting motorists in Port Harcourt. The arrests occurred at an unauthorized checkpoint under the Rumuokoro Flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest, stating that a team from the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit had been tracking the officers following complaints about their activities. Iringe-Koko disclosed that two of the officers were out of uniform during the operation, an additional breach of police protocols. During the arrest, money allegedly taken from motorists was found on them.

“The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three of its officers following a coordinated monitoring patrol by operatives on October 29, 2024,” Iringe-Koko stated. “Two of the officers were found conducting this unprofessional behavior while out of uniform, further contravening police standards. Their misconduct was captured on video, providing clear evidence of their actions.”

The officers have been detained and face impending disciplinary actions. The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional integrity and assured the public of zero tolerance for any personnel engaging in misconduct.
