Sack Wike, political crisis will stop – Rivers residents tell Tinubu

By Mark Lenu

The recent statement credited to President Bola Tinubu over the crisis in Rivers State has been viewed by some residents of the state as not the solution.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President ordered the police to guard public facilities to “restore and maintain peace, law and order immediately.”

Tinubu further urged the political actors and their supporters to settle their differences in court, saying that, “self-help has no place in a democratic system.”

Since the state Governor Siminalayi Fubara withdrew his loyalty from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a political crisis has been confronting the state.

Some residents of the state who only want to lend their voices without having their names mentioned in print told our correspondent that the solution to the crisis in the state is to sack Wike as minister.

“Wike is using the huge amount of money he had gotten from the state and his federal appointment influence as a minister to disturb the peace of the state.

“Sack him as minister and all the trouble he gives to the state will end. And until Wike is removed from the federal cabinet, peace will not return to Rivers State,” they said.

You recall that the state had recorded the burning down of some LGA secretariats and the killing of some persons during and after the just concluded LG election.

The election was held on Saturday, October 5 across the 23 LGAs of the state with a sweeping victory for the governor’s adopted party (APP) and the newly elected Chairmen and councilors had all been sworn in.
