In a newsworthy reshuffle aimed at enhancing policing efficiency across the nation, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the redeployment of several Commissioners of Police (CPs) in key states, specifically Rivers and Delta. The move is part of a broader strategy to improve law enforcement and security operations.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP’s directive included the transfer of Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command. In his place, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi from Delta State has been assigned to lead the Rivers State Command, while Peter Opara, previously the CP of the FCT, will take over Olufemi’s role in Delta.
“The Inspector-General of Police, in an effort to strategically emplace a Police Force well equipped for effective policing, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioners of Police of Rivers State Command, Delta State Command, and the Federal Capital Territory,” Adejobi stated.
This reshuffle comes at a time when both Rivers and Delta states are facing unique security challenges. The IGP emphasized that the redeployments are intended to ensure that law enforcement agencies are responsive and capable of addressing the specific needs of each area.
The IGP’s decision also encompasses the deployment of four additional CPs to other states, including Lagos, Abia, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom. Notable appointments include CP Danladi Nda to Abia State Command, CP Olanrewaju Olawale to Lagos State Command, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya to Ebonyi State Command, and CP Festus Eribo to Akwa Ibom State Command.
Adejobi further elaborated on the mission behind these strategic appointments, stating, “The posting of these strategic managers reflects the mission of the Inspector-General of Police to strategically reposition the Police Force and ensure maximum utilization of human resources available to the Force.”

In his directive, the IGP urged the newly appointed CPs to adopt innovative approaches to policing and ensure that their personnel are diligent in the execution of their duties. He called on them to be proactive in addressing security concerns within their jurisdictions and to embrace ongoing police reform initiatives aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
It is worth noting that as the country continues to grapple with various security challenges, including rising crime rates and social unrest, the effectiveness of these changes will be closely monitored by both the public and security experts. The hope is that these strategic redeployments will bring about a more responsive and efficient police force, capable of safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.
