Rivers State Police Command has apprehended several individuals involved in criminal activities, including cultists, armed robbers, and an impersonator posing as a police officer.

This development occurred following an operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Luegbo Community, Khana Local Government Area, on August 9, 2024.

Upon arrival, police operatives disrupted an ongoing cult initiation ritual, leading to the arrest of five students from Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic. The suspects, identified as Mduni Clement, Prosper Wonyingipreye, Kunle Joseph, Eken Evans, and Isaiah Elisha, confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity. They have been charged in court and are currently held in a correctional facility.

During the raid, police encountered Fred Monday, 31, fully dressed in police camouflage, posing as an Inspector of Police. Armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and 29 rounds of live ammunition, he was taken into custody.

Monday, a native of Wiyakara Community, Khana LGA, confessed to being an impostor who had acquired the rifle and other weapons in 2021 for 850,000 naira from an accomplice, Goodluck, also known as Boy-J.

Monday also revealed his involvement in criminal operations across Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, and Rivers States, where he and his gang disguised as police officers to aid criminals. A member of the Iceland cult group, Monday has been linked to armed robberies and other crimes, often posing as a Keke (tricycle) rider to scout potential victims.

Police investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other members of his gang.

Items recovered from the suspect:
– 1 AK-47 rifle
– 10 magazines
– 29 rounds of live ammunition.
