“Shun Partisan, Be Professional,” Gov. Fubara Charges R’State Police Command

Gov. Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara cautioned the Rivers State Police Command to shun partisans and remain professional in carrying out their duties as security personnel in the state.

Governor Fubara gave this charge while speaking to the security men at the Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday as he handed over 100 operational vehicles to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu.

He highlighted the implications of partisanship that officers might face if they engage in politically biased actions that will dent their image with “irrevocable scars.”

“We have seen those people that are partisan and how they ended. And I am saying it here, every one of you that is an officer that is being partisan, you will see how you will end,” he cautioned.

To this, the state governor told the security force that the donation was for appreciation and also to boost the efforts of the police in combating crimes.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the mobility and efficiency of the Nigerian Police Force in the region.

Governor Fubara acknowledged that delays in responding to incidents were often due to a lack of adequate vehicles, a situation his administration is determined to rectify.

Furthermore, he described the donation as the first phase of a broader support initiative aimed at equipping the police with more sophisticated vehicles in the future.

Governor Fubara urged the police officers to adhere strictly to their professional ethics, ensuring the protection of lives and property in Rivers State without favoritism. He stressed that political allegiances are fleeting, but the impact of their actions would be remembered long after their service in the state.

“As a professional that you are, your duty is to protect lives and property of Rivers State, not to protect any individual. Politics will come and it will go. The enmity you are creating for those of you that are partisan will live with you forever,” he advised.

He expressed confidence in the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, commending him for his resilience and commitment to combating crime in the state.

Commissioner Disu, in his remarks, thanked Governor Fubara for the generous donation, describing it as a testament to the governor’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the community and the Nigerian Police Force.
