PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Leaders call on police boss Kayode Egbetokun to to act against the subversive act of the 25 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA), who defeated from PDP to All Progressives Congress (APC), and take action in order to protect the institutions of democracy, peace, and security in Rivers State.

The party leaders issued a stern warning to the defeated 25 lawmakers of RSHA to refrain from inciteful action and words that could disrupt peace and governance in Rivers State.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, in a signed document shared on X on Wednesday, told the defeated lawmakers to brace up and accept reality, and he commented that Amaewhule and his 24 friends lost their membership by virtue of the self-executory provision of Section 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) since their defection.

He further explained that, as the document read, “This action by these individuals seeking to assume the powers of the Rivers House of Assembly is apparently with the intension to cause crisis, undermine, and disrupt the Democratic and Constitutional Order in the State in clear violation of Section 1 sub-section 2 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“Having irretrievably lost their seats upon their defection from the PDP, the political party platform upon which they were elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly, they cannot enjoy the powers, rights, privileges, recognition, and obligations of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

In promoting peace and building a conducive environment for the people of Rivers State, he urged the people to be vigilant, law-abiding, and continue to work together for the continued stability, peace, and delivery of democracy dividends in Rivers State on the platform of the PDP.
