Mistaken Identity: Gunmen Kidnap Police Orderly and Driver of Rivers State Ruler

Unidentified gunmen have carried out a disturbing abduction at the residence of His Royal Highness, Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, situated on Eagle Island in Rivers State.

Godstime Ihunwo, an executive member of the Diobu Vigilante and Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, provided chilling details of the event, as he disclosed that the abduction transpired around 8 pm.

Chief Ihunwo, esteemed as the paramount ruler of the Rumu-Elechi community in Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, faced the unexpected incident where his police orderly and driver were forcefully taken away on Saturday evening.

Shockingly, there are allegations that the assailants’ primary target was the traditional ruler himself. “I received a distressing call about the abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo at approximately 9 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Upon reaching his residence on Eagle Island, Chief Cornwell revealed to me that both his driver and police orderly had been forcibly taken,” said Godstime Ihunwo.

“We strongly condemn this brazen attempt to abduct HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and implore the police authorities to swiftly conduct a comprehensive investigation into this appalling incident.”

Confirming the gravity of the situation, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the State Police Public Relations Officer, affirmed that the police had commenced an intensive investigation into the kidnapping. The community remains on edge following this grievous crime against individuals serving the traditional ruler, prompting calls for heightened security measures and vigilance in the area.
