During the Eid el-Kabir celebration, former President Muhammadu Buhari hosted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. As part of the festivities, Buhari generously donated N1 million, two cows, and 20 bags of rice to the corps members. This annual tradition underscores his support for the NYSC and its mission of fostering national unity and cultural integration.
In his address, Buhari praised the NYSC for its role in promoting unity among Nigerians, highlighting its importance in broadening perspectives and enhancing cultural understanding. He particularly commended the scheme’s ability to bring together young people from diverse regions of Nigeria, emphasizing that none of the corps members in Daura were from Katsina State itself, except for health-related exceptions. This, he noted, demonstrates the scheme’s goal of encouraging inter-state interaction and national cohesion.
Buhari’s engagement with the corps members also included advice on being vigilant and security-conscious, reflecting his ongoing concern for their safety amidst Nigeria’s challenging security landscape. The celebration was marked by a walk from the Eid prayer ground to his residence, during which he interacted with local residents who lined the streets to greet him
This event also saw the presence of prominent political figures, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila and several APC governors, who visited Buhari to pay homage and celebrate the occasion with him .The visit and the ex president’s gestures of goodwill toward the NYSC members reinforced the spirit of Eid el-Kabir, emphasizing generosity, community, and national unity.
