Eyimba Tramples Rivers United

The people’s Elephant, Eyimba Fc. have trashed the Pride of Rivers, Rivers United 4-1, this happened in a match day 34 super Sunday fixture in the Nigerian Premier football League (NPFL) on Sunday June 2nd 2024.

Title Holders Enyimba maintained their push for a successful title defence following a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Rivers United.

The in-form Eyimba FC of Aba missed a lot of golden chances in the early minutes all thanks to the super Osagie onisodumeya, against all odds the people’s elephant were behind in the 14th minute via “ironman” Andy Okpe who executed an intelligent lob to find the back of the net.

In the 31st minute Alex Oyewa was substituted off because of some difficulties and was replaced by Samuel Anywi.

In the 37th minute Eyimba’s skipper Chijioke Mboama capitalized on a school boy defensive error to net the equalizer.

At halftime wonderkid Seiyefa Jackson and Ochobi Elias replaced Chiamaka Madu and Nyima Nwagua.

The 50s was eventful as Osagie Onisodumeya made a crucial save only to concede to Chijioke Mboama who doubled his money to give Eyimba the Lead.

Elijah Akanni dashed Rivers United’s hopes in the 65th minute as he doubled Eyimba’s advantage.

Lightening will strike twice 10 minutes later in the 75th minute as Elijah Akanni got his brace, to keep things at 4-1.

This is Rivers United’s biggest Loss of the season.

Chijioke’s performance was honored as  he was rewarded with the sum of 100,000 Naira as the Club player of the match.

Indeed coach Yemi and his boys deserve some special fisherman soup for this resounding victory against the Pride of Rivers.
