Labour Leaders in Rivers State have expressed optimism that the incoming administration of Siminialayi Fubara will prioritize the welfare of workers in the state.
The Labour Leaders made this known in their different statements in commemoration of the 2023 Workers Day celebration.
The Workers Day Celebration is a day put together to raise awareness about the importance and rights of workers.
The day which is celebrated every first of May is also referred to as May Day Celebration.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Rivers State in its statement to mark the 2023 May Day Celebration said it has taken steps to avoid a reoccurrence of the frosty relationship between its past administration and the Rivers State Government.
The Chairman of NLC in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor while speaking to newsmen also said that the NLC has further taken steps to ensure a cordial relationship between it and the incoming administrations of Siminalaya Fubara.

Speaking on the expectations of the workforce in Rivers State, the Vice Chairman of the NLC in the State, Azubuike Nkasiobu, who is also the Chairman of the May Day Organizing Committee, believes that the next Governor would consolidate on prompt payment of workers’ salary and the new ten thousand workers undergoing employment processes.
And for his part, the Secretary of NLC in Rivers State, Matthew Olabe said workers in the State would expect the next administration to pay them motivational incentives to enhance their productivity at workplaces.
TUC calls on workers in Rivers State to continue to support the State Government.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, TUC in Rivers State, Ikechukwu Onyefuru has called on the workers in the state to continue to support the government in the execution of people-oriented policies and programmes.
The Chairman of Trade Union Congress, TUC in Rivers State, Ikechukwu Onyefuru in his statement to mark the 2023 Worker Day urged the workers to continue their support to the outgoing administration in the state and pledged the commitment of TUC in Rivers State to the success of the incoming administration.
He advised the incoming governor to give priority attention to the welfare of workers in the state.
The Trade Union Congress TUC in Rivers State further congratulated Governor Nyesom Wike, on the conferment of the award of the Outstanding Pro Labour Governor Award 2022 by the TUC National Administrative Council.
The TUC Chairman in the state said the award is deserving for the outstanding performance of the Governor in terms of workers welfare especially the prompt payment of salaries of workers and pensioners in the state.
The statement further commended the Governor for creating an enabling environment for workers in the state and also the building a befitting state secretariat for TUC in Rivers State
Prominent Labour Leader Menele Nzide says Sim Fubara will prioritize workers’ welfare
In the meantime, a prominent Labour Leader in Nigeria Menele Nzide says the 2023 workers day celebration in Rivers State will be one with a difference.
Menele Nzide said it is the first time since Rivers State was created that a Civil Servant will become the Governor of Rivers State.
He also said that the emergence of Siminialayi Fubara will be a good omen for workers in Rivers State.
Menele Nzide, also said that the reason why the Labour suffered in Rivers State in the previous year was due to the poor relationship between the Beatrice Itubo-led administration and the Rivers State Government.
He, however, is optimistic that Sim Fubara being a former Civil Servant will employ collective bargaining in dealing with issues.
On the national front, the prominent Labour Leader in Nigeria Menele Nzide is excited at the emergence of Joe Ajaeru as the new national Chairman of NLC.
He, however, said that Joe Ajaeru must work hard to ensure that the frequent strikes witnessed under the administration of Ayuba Wabba does not emerge this time around.
