Mother of a former Councilor in Port Harcourt Local Government Council, has been shot by suspected cultists over her son’s (ex-Councillor) refusal to pay election security levy.

The victim was shot on Monday morning at her residence located in Egede street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

An eyewitness account to our Correspondent, said the suspected cultists, led by one Zubi, met the ex-councillor simply identiied as Endurance, at the front of his house at Egede street and demanded payment of ‘election security money’ from him.

The ex-councillor insisted that he had no money to give to them, and his statement was said to have infuriated the hoodlums, who started throwing bottles into his compound.

The source said that Endurance ran into his house, and the suspected cultists opened fire on him, which he narrowly escaped, but the bullet hit his mother inside the compound.

Another eyewitness said the hoodlums escaped after the shooting incident.

The Azikiwe Police Division in charge of the area and other Police units visited the scene at press time while the woman was rushed to the hospital.

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident, noting that the woman is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital while efforts are being made to arrest the perpetrators.
