Two killed in cult battle in Port Harcourt

Tina Amanda

Two persons were reportedly killed yesterday Saturday 7 January, following a clash between Iceland and Degbam Cult groups, at Berebabo axis of Gambia street, Mile 1 Diobu, PortHarcourt.

Our correspondent gathered that the Degbam cult group led by an outlaw member had ambushed a 26-year-old Iceland leader identified as Precious Adiele around the area on Saturday night, 7 January, and gave him several machete cuts, which resulted in his death.

After hacking their first target to death, a source disclosed that the suspected Degbam cultists stormed a building where another member of the Iceland cult group is said to be residing but met his absence.

According to the source, the suspected Degbam cultists who met the absence of their target at the compound were said to have set the building ablaze.

The source further revealed that an older adult who was trapped in the building set ablaze by the suspected Degbam cultists was burnt to death by an inferno.

Our correspondent reports that the rampaging cultists fled the scene before the arrival of Officers from Divisional Police headquarters, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

As of Sunday, there was heightened tension over fears of reprisals and counter-reprisals by the two rival cult groups.

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed that the 26 years old Precious Adiele is a member of Iceland and a notorious armed robber who had been involved in a series of robbery cases and had just returned from the correctional centre.

She further said the scene had been visited, and the Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical teams to ensure no further breakdown of law and order and arrest of other cult group members while noting that the investigation is ongoing.
